Seeing Better Than You Have Before

Questions To Ask Yourself If You Are Considering Contacts

by Linda Bates

If you've been thinking about giving contacts a try, there are some questions you can ask yourself to determine whether or not you are a good candidate. There are many benefits that come with wearing contacts, but there are also some things you should be prepared for and willing to accept. Before you get contacts, you may want to ask yourself these questions:

Can you get past the thought of touching your eye?

Most people don't like the idea of touching their eye, but they can get used to it fairly quickly so they can put the contacts in their eyes. However, some people will always struggle when it comes to touching their eyes. Determine whether or not this is going to be a problem for you.

Do you spend a lot of time in areas with unhealthy air?

If you spend the majority of your day in an area with a lot of dust, paint fumes, wood chippings or other particles that can get in the air, then you may do better with glasses. You can wear safety goggles at all times, but be prepared for the fact that your eyes may still be irritated often.

Do you play a sport with head gear?

If you participate in a sport where head gear should be used, you may find that contacts will make things much easier on you. The head gear will be more comfortable without glasses and you won't have to worry about them breaking or falling off.

Do you enjoy wearing high fashion sun glasses?

Once of the negative aspects of wearing prescription glasses is you can't wear your favorite sunglasses with them. However, contact lenses give you the ability to see better while you continue enjoying your favorite fashion accessories.

Do you have glasses you barely wear?

Some people hate their glasses so much they avoid wearing them and go around with poor vision. If you spend more of your time dealing with vision problems then you do in your glasses, it would be a good idea to go with contacts.

Are you OK with taking care of the contacts?

When you wear contacts, you need to clean them and make sure they are stored properly. If you aren't going to be up for this task, you should stay with glasses.

Now that you have asked yourself these questions, you should have an easier time determining whether or not contacts are the right choice for you. Contact an optometrist, like Brooks Eyecare, for more information.
